I don’t know about you all, but 2017 was pretty hard on my bank account. Between growing a business and prepping for a new baby, my account could seriously use a break. 2018 is the year of saving money, which means it’s also the year of DIY.

While I do firmly believe in spending more for quality over quantity, that doesn’t mean there aren’t places where we can easily cut corners. Lip scrubs, for instance. Why are we spending $10+ on a sugar scrub that we can make at home? Lip scrubs take no time to make at all and you can easily make them both vegan and organic!

The following are some of my favorite lip scrub recipes:

Peppermint Lip Scrub:

mint plant leaves

This one is probably up there on my list of favorites because I adore the Holiday season, and this little minty scrub will take you there. With the Holiday season comes cold weather and chapped lips, which this scrub can definitely help you out with!

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Measure two tablespoons of used coffee grounds (a perfect way to repurpose this mornings coffee!) in a small bowl. Add the coconut oil and using a spoon, mash the oil and coffee grounds together to form a paste. Add 1-2 drops of peppermint oil and mix well. Toss it in any old lip scrub pot or empty makeup tub you have lying around!

Creamy Coconut Vanilla Lip Scrub:

You could potentially sub the agave in this recipe for honey, but as you probably know by now honey isn’t vegan. So if that’s important to you, stick to the agave!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp agave nectar
  • 2 tsp pure coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • Vanilla extract to taste

Instructions:

  • Mix the agave nectar and coconut oil in a small bowl. Add brown sugar and gently combine. Add the vanilla a drop at a time until it has the taste/smell you prefer. If you prefer a thicker consistency, add more brown sugar and gently combine. Finally, scoop mixture into a small container and seal well.

Chocolate Lip Scrub:

This one is clearly one of my favorites because… well, it’s chocolate. Must I say anything else?

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 tsp agave

Instructions:

Mix sugar and cocoa powder in a bowl until well combined. Finish the scrub by mixing in the wet ingredients, adding more sugar if the consistency is too wet for your liking. Remember you can always add more, you can never add less! Finish it off by putting the mixture in a sealed container.

All of these scrubs will be fine sitting out at room temperature, but ultimately they’ll last longer if you keep them in the fridge. I hope these vegan makeup recipes have helped both your lips and your budget! If you try them out, let me know what you think in the comments below.
